Update: Presentation Guidelines

Your final project presentation should include the following:

  • An introduction to the mission or purpose of your museum
  • Inspirations and precedents: The physical museums or online sites that you looked at
  • Sources: Where your content came from
  • Process: A brief look at your developmental documents – wireframes, site maps, design iterations
  • Code: What Jquery plugins or other javascript did you use and why?
  • A walk-through of the final site.

Your presentation should take approximately 15 minutes, with 10 minutes of critique.

Note: Your final project MUST be uploaded to your A server account to receive a grade. NO EXCEPTIONS, NO EXCUSES. If you do not know how to do this, ask your lab teacher or me.

Design and build an online museum

The online Merriam-Webster Dictionary defines Museum as:

an institution devoted to the procurement, care, study, and display of objects of lasting interest or value; also : a place where objects are exhibited

With that definition in mind, craft a virtual museum with the following criteria

  • Choose a theme that represents your personal interests or style, something that you are passionate about, even obsessed by
  • The museum’s “collection” should compiled by you from real world subject matter that you have access to. You should not just pull from online sources, and ideally you will do your own photography.
  • The museum will take the form of an HTML/CSS Web site.
  • You should use the HTML5 doctype and HTML5 / CSS3 that is supported across target browsers or degrades gracefully.
  • The HTML must validate, and render consistently across target browsers. Target browsers are:
    • Internet Explorer 7 / 8 (PC)
    • Safari (Mac)
    • Firefox (Mac/PC)
    • Chrome (Mac / PC)
  • Your design should use JavaScript / Jquery to display the collection in a creative and inventive manner. Create an interactive experience that engages the user in the subject matter and supports your thesis of why it is interesting and important.
